Great hiking in the Black Hills - Badlands area
Welcome to Tread & Soul!
Tread & Soul is structured primarily to aid casual hikers, day hikers, new hikers, families, and seniors. Many trails listed here do not require extensive or strenuous ascents. In fact, a few of them are gentle enough to be accessible for those who require walkers or other mobility aids. The summits listed here span the beginner-to-intermediate range, with only a few that even require simple class 3 scrambling skills.
The content of this information-only site is based on 15 years of Black Hills and Badlands hiking experiences of the webmaster and his wife. The commentary on each trail, summit, canyon or other various topics will reflect their first-hand knowledge and research. There are more trails, summits and canyons in the Black Hills besides what are listed here, and links to additional options are listed in our Resources page. Tread & Soul is a volunteer effort and no funds are solicited here. All photos in this site were taken by the webmaster, unless otherwise noted.
