Freedom Trail
One of the few paved trails in the Black Hills is found within the city of Hot Springs. This trail is 1.15 miles in length one-way, running from behind the Meuller Center upstream along the scenic Fall River through Brookside Park and Centennial Park to Kidney Spring. The Fall River is fed by thermal warm springs and runs year around. Area residents enjoy wading and swimming in its constant 87-degree mineral waters, plus picnicking at various locations along the river. There is a playground at Brookside Park. Residents and visitors alike enjoy feeding the year-around duck population along the river. With access points at various locations along the trail as well as gentle grades, this trail is definitely an easy trail that is accessible to people of all abilities. Generally the traffic on the trail is light, but it can get congested at times, particularly when there are tight groups of people, groups of parents with strollers or bicyclists. Dogs are allowed along the trail and are required to be on a leash at all times. A word of caution here is warranted as this is the biggest drawback to the trail, since numerous dog owners do not restrain their dogs, nor clean up after them. For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken. Psalm 62:1-2
